Thomas B. Trent – Partner
Tom Trent practices primarily in the areas of commercial and consumer banking, real estate law and business transactions. He regularly assists lenders with structuring and documenting complex commercial lending transactions, including commercial real estate and asset-based loans. He also regularly advises on commercial loan work outs, foreclosure, collection, bankruptcy, and other creditors' rights issues and counsels lending institutions with respect to the sale and purchase of individual commercial loans and commercial loan portfolios.
Tom handles consumer lending and regulatory matters for lenders, realtors and title insurance companies; advises on financial regulations, including without limitation, RESPA, Truth-in-Lending, Home Affordable Modification Program, Fair Credit Reporting, and Equal Credit Opportunity; and represents loan originators on construction lending issues. He assists mortgage servicers with REO closings, evictions and title claims and has lectured on Indiana mortgage foreclosure law.
Tom also focuses on real estate matters, including zoning, development, subdivision and other land use issues. Tom routinely provides representation to clients before the local board of zoning appeals and plan commission.
Tom holds a bachelor degree from Indiana University in Bloomington where he was a member and captain of the Men's Varsity Swimming Team and is a graduate of Tulane Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 2009, 2010 and 2011, Tom was recognized by his peers by being named an Indiana Rising Star, an elite designation for outstanding attorneys under age 40. Tom serves as a board member of the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne and a member of the Grants Review Committee; the Secretary of the Board of Directors of Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities, Inc.; and a board member of Blessings in a Backpack, Inc. He is a Past President of the Mustard Seed Furniture of Fort Wayne, Inc. and is a five-term Past President and Honorary Director of Erin’s House for Grieving Children, Inc. Tom is also presently a member of the board of the NE Indiana Mortgage Bankers Association.
